And even though some manufacturers call it rigid foam insulation for the purpose of vinyl siding it basically has the same insulating value as a piece of plywood. The panels provide a continuous energy efficient surface. Thousands of houses in my area built like that when i started in 1970 we used i sheet of ply in the corners and the rest was celotex now they are using 1 sheet of 1 2 osb in the corners and 1 2 foam board on the rest vinyl siding on that i don t know why we bothere with locks as anyone could go right thru any wall in 10 minutes with a hammer.

The upper part of the cabin has standard batting and no form of exterior insulation under the siding. Since i am doing this predominantly myself i of course have to be cognizant of the weather while things are exposed. Then you ca nee install the celotex and then new siding. This eliminates thermal bridging which is the energy lost through wall studs.

So i was just was reading back to your original post and you stated that you have no plywood osb. Would it be better insulation if i remove the celotex and use a 1 foam board instead. We will be residing the cabin this summer and are wondering if adding 1 inch of xps rigid insulation on the exterior walls and walk out will cause any moisture issues. Hardie plank recommends a maximum of 1 of foam board celotex type material under their lap siding so the 1 2 foam and 1 2 celotex would be fine. Celotex is just a ridged insulation so if that s all you have on your walls under the masonite then my recommendation is to remove the celotex as we ll and install plywood osb. 1925 present headquarters.
